A loud bang from the garage in Downey is the unmistakable sound of a torsion spring snapping. The door will likely feel very heavy or refuse to open.

A loud bang from the garage rarely happens in a vacuum. Downey's coastal salt air and inland heat wears doors down — inland heat strains openers — and we get a clear run of these calls every late-summer heat wave. A local pro fixes the underlying cause and backs it with a one-year warranty.
