A garage door that feels too heavy in Downey almost always means the springs are worn or broken. A properly balanced door should lift with one hand.

A garage door feels too heavy rarely happens in a vacuum. Downey's coastal salt air and inland heat wears doors down — inland heat strains openers — and we get a clear run of these calls every late-summer heat wave. A local pro fixes the underlying cause and backs it with a one-year warranty.

What might be wrong

Common causes when your garage door feels too heavy

Here's what our local techs check first — and what each one usually means.

Worn or broken springs

Tired springs no longer counterbalance the door's weight.

An undersized spring

A spring not matched to the door makes it heavy and wears fast.

Binding rollers or tracks

Friction adds to the felt weight.

How we fix it

Fixed fast by a local Downey pro

We measure the door, install the correct springs, service the rollers, and balance-test so it lifts effortlessly.
