When a garage door won't close in Salem, the safety sensors are the usual suspect — but a few other issues can be behind it too. It's almost always fixable the same day.

Living with Salem's constant damp and cold mornings means garage doors work harder here than most people realize. cold mornings stiffen rollers and moisture warps wood & seals both feed straight into a garage door won't close, which is why our Marion County techs treat the cause, not just the door in front of them.

What might be wrong

Common causes when your garage door won't close

Here's what our local techs check first — and what each one usually means.

Blocked or misaligned safety sensors
If the photo-eyes don't see each other, the door reverses by design. A bump, cobweb, or dirty lens is often all it takes.
Something in the door's path
A trash can, tool, or even a small object can trip the safety reversal.
A bad limit setting
If the close-limit is off, the opener thinks the door has already closed.
Worn rollers or track damage
Binding in the tracks can stop the door partway and trigger a reversal.
