A garage door that slams shut in Lafayette has lost the spring tension that controls its descent — a serious safety issue we treat as urgent.

Why does this keep happening in Lafayette? A lot of it comes down to the local climate. Heat and Gulf humidity takes its toll — humidity rusts springs & cables, and storm season batters doors — so a garage door slams shut is one of the more common calls our Lafayette crews run.

What might be wrong

Common causes when your garage door slams shut

Here's what our local techs check first — and what each one usually means.

A broken spring
With no counterbalance, the full weight of the door drops fast.
A snapped cable
A failed cable removes the control on one or both sides.
A failed opener or worn pulley
Worn lift hardware can let the door fall.
How we fix it

Fixed fast by a local Lafayette pro

We secure the door, replace the spring or cable, and confirm a controlled, balanced close before we leave.

Snapped Garage Door Cable
A broken cable can leave the door crooked or off the track — keep it closed until a pro arrives.
Garage Door Feels Too Heavy
If the door fights you when lifting it by hand, the springs are doing less than they should — and the opener is paying for it.
