A garage door that slams shut in Kingsport has lost the spring tension that controls its descent — a serious safety issue we treat as urgent.

Living with Kingsport's heat and humidity means garage doors work harder here than most people realize. storms surge opener boards and falling limbs dent panels both feed straight into a garage door slams shut, which is why our Sullivan County techs treat the cause, not just the door in front of them.

What might be wrong

Common causes when your garage door slams shut

Here's what our local techs check first — and what each one usually means.

With no counterbalance, the full weight of the door drops fast.
A snapped cable
A failed cable removes the control on one or both sides.
A failed opener or worn pulley
Worn lift hardware can let the door fall.
