Overhead Door Repair & Service

Overhead Door has been an American garage door name since 1921, when founder C.G. Johnson invented the very first upward-lifting garage door and, a few years later, the electric opener to go with it. Today you'll spot their "Red Ribbon" logo on everything from solid steel doors and carriage-house styles to the quiet Odyssey and Destiny openers, and many homes have a unit that's outlasted two or three remotes. Whatever Overhead Door model is on your garage, our team services, tunes up, and repairs them every day, so when yours starts acting up you've got a neighbor to call.

Common issues

Common Overhead Door problems we fix

Odyssey or Destiny opener won't respond to the remote or wall button

Overhead Door's belt- and chain-drive openers are workhorses, but when the door won't budge it's usually a dead remote battery, a tripped safety reversal, or a logic board that's lost its programming after a power surge. We'll figure out whether it's a five-dollar fix or a board that needs reprogramming before you replace the whole unit.

CodeDodger remote or keypad stopped working after a power outage

Overhead Door uses rolling-code (CodeDodger) security that occasionally needs the remotes and keypad re-synced to the opener, especially after a storm or a battery swap. It feels like the opener died, but most of the time it just needs a quick reprogram, which we can often walk you through or handle on a visit.

Door reverses before it closes or won't close all the time

Those little photo-eye sensors near the floor are the usual culprit. On Overhead Door openers a blinking LED on the motor head is your clue. Dirty lenses, a bumped bracket, or sun glare can all make a healthy door act broken. We realign and test the safety reversal so it closes the first time, every time.

Broken torsion spring on a heavy steel or insulated door

Overhead Door's insulated steel and carriage-house doors are solid, and that weight is hard on the springs. A snapped spring (you'll hear a loud bang and the door feels impossibly heavy) is the most common repair we see, and it is genuinely dangerous to tackle yourself. Please don't try to force the door, call us and we'll swap the spring safely with the correct rating for your door.

Loud grinding, popping, or a jerky door on the tracks

Worn rollers, loose track bolts, or a stripped trolley gear on an older Overhead Door unit make a racket and put strain on the opener. We lubricate, tighten, and replace worn hardware so the door glides quietly again instead of waking the whole street.

Cracked panel or dented section on a steel door

If a basketball, a backed-up car, or just age has cracked a panel, Overhead Door's sectional design often lets us replace a single section instead of the whole door. We'll match the panel style and color so the repair blends in and your curb appeal stays intact.

FAQ

Overhead Door questions

Is "overhead door" the same as my brand, or is it just the type of door?

Good question, because the term gets used both ways. "Overhead door" is the general name for any garage door that lifts up overhead on tracks, but Overhead Door (with the Red Ribbon logo) is also a specific company, the one that actually invented that door back in 1921. If you've got their logo on your door or opener, you have a true Overhead Door brand product. Either way, we service it.

Can you get parts for an older Overhead Door opener, or do I need a whole new unit?

Most of the time, yes. Overhead Door has been around for over a century, so parts like gears, remotes, sensors, and circuit boards are widely available even for older Odyssey and Legacy units. We'll always price the repair first and only recommend a full replacement when the cost of fixing it stops making sense.

My Overhead Door garage won't open and my car's stuck inside. What do I do right now?

Take a breath, we can get you moving. First, look for the red emergency release cord hanging from the opener rail and give it a firm pull straight down; that disconnects the door so you can lift it by hand (just be careful, it's heavy, and don't pull it if the spring is broken). If the door feels stuck or way too heavy, stop and call us. We offer same-day and emergency service and will get someone out to you fast.

Do you program Overhead Door remotes and keypads, including the CodeDodger ones?

Absolutely. Whether you bought a new remote, moved into a home with no working clicker, or need your keypad re-synced after an outage, we program all Overhead Door CodeDodger remotes and keypads. It's a quick job, and we'll make sure every opener and vehicle in the house is paired before we leave.
